Valentine's Day Gift
Allison, Mary's daughter, wrote the Valentine’s Day Gift for a school project when she was in the fourth grade. The book is named for what Allison calls her “worst Valentine’s Day gift”. On that holiday, in 2003, she learned her mother had breast cancer. The book chronicles her mother’s illness, from her struggle with chemotherapy to the support she and her family received from friends and family.
The book includes advice for children in the same situation that Allison found herself in. She urges them to talk to friends, neighbors, and most importantly, their parents. The last two pages include web sites for children about cancer, organizations that help, and questions kids ask themselves.
The Valentines Day Gift offers a powerful and sincere message. In writing this book Allison helped herself and her family get through a difficult experience. The book is a valuable resource for any family touched by cancer. Furthermore, it is valuable for all of us looking for contentment and support in these turbulent times.
To date, over 600 copies of the book have been sold. The book cost $10 and is available at The Valentine's Day Gift. All proceeds go the Mary Grace Memorial Foundation.
